About Me
Hi! My name is Beverly and I am middle aged mom who has worked in child welfare for 17 years. I have worked with many children throughout the years but have always loved working with teens who have been labeled juvenile delinquents. Many have fallen through the cracks of the system and live a life of abuse and neglect and that has an impact on their brain development and ability to make choices. However, like anything else in life nothing is perfectly balanced.
The balance of justice is imperfect in many ways. Victims of crimes have undeniable rights to be heard, understood, and to receive justice for the crimes that have been perpetrated against them. Juveniles that commit crimes are children and how does that effect how they should be punished? How does their background play into how they should be treated in the criminal justice system? Systemic racism, classicism, money, power, influence, it all plays a part in every crime and the eventual punishment of the criminal.
I have had the honor of being a juvenile probation officer for teens who have committed minor crimes and those who have committed serious crimes. I have worked with the juveniles on my caseload, their families, the court system, school systems, and service providers to hold the juveniles accountable but to also rehabilitate and attempt to break the cycle.
Please join me as we explore the imperfect balance of justice for juvenile offenders. We will discuss crime, punishment, and the social dynamics that influence the juvenile justice system.
